A San Francisco man is facing serious federal charges for allegedly embezzling more than $1.2 million from his employer, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey and the FBI San Francisco, KRON4 reports.

Tony Archuleta-Perkins, 48, is accused of creating a fraudulent non-profit organization named “Murrieta Valley High School 1994” (MVHS 1994) in 2013. The indictment states that from 2017 to 2023, Archuleta-Perkins worked at two San Francisco law firms, eventually securing a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position at one of them. This role granted him significant control over the firm’s financial transactions.

Between May 2018 and December 2023, Archuleta-Perkins is alleged to have executed numerous unauthorized and deceptive payments to MVHS 1994. These payments, which were not sanctioned by his employer and served no legitimate business purpose, were funneled into the fraudulent non-profit. Once the funds were in MVHS 1994's account, Archuleta-Perkins reportedly either transferred money directly to vendors and other accounts or wrote checks to his personal bank account.

The indictment highlights a specific incident where Archuleta-Perkins allegedly deposited a $41,663 U.S. Treasury check, intended for one of the law firms, into the MVHS 1994 account. He then wrote a check for the same amount to his personal account.

Additionally, the indictment accuses Archuleta-Perkins of using the misappropriated funds to make purchases on Best Buy and Home Depot credit cards and to finance the purchase, renovation, and improvement of at least three properties in California.

Archuleta-Perkins faces eight counts of bank fraud and five counts of money laundering. It’s important to note that an indictment is a formal accusation and not proof of guilt. If convicted, Archuleta-Perkins could be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison.
